Munneswaram Temple

The ancient Munneswaram Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is believed to predate the Ramayana. According to legend, Lord Rama visited this sacred shrine after defeating King Ravana to seek relief from the sin of killing a Brahmin king.

Manavari Temple

Manavari is home to the first Shiva Lingam installed by Lord Rama, known as Ramalinga Shivan. It is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites associated with the Ramayana.

Legend identifies Hakgala as Ashoka Vatika, the beautiful royal garden where King Ravana kept Sita Devi.

Divurumpola Temple

This sacred site marks the place where Sita Devi underwent the Agni Pariksha (Trial by Fire) to prove her purity before Lord Rama.

Gayathri Peetham

Gayathri Peetham is regarded as one of Sri Lanka's important spiritual centres connected with the Ramayana tradition and is dedicated to Goddess Gayathri.

Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple

The first Hanuman temple established in Sri Lanka and the only temple dedicated to the five-faced (Panchamuga) Hanuman. It is an important pilgrimage destination for devotees from around the world.

Kelaniya Temple

According to the Ramayana, Vibhishana, the righteous brother of King Ravana, was crowned King of Lanka here by Lakshmana after the great battle. Beautiful murals depicting this historic event can still be seen within the temple.
